Easy to make donut holes prepared with canned biscuit dough and filled with raspberry jelly.
Here we go again with the doughnuts! OR Donuts! What can I say…I love doughnuts! It’s a weekend thing around here. Maybe you can make it a weekend thing, too!
Coincidentally, just the other day my Mojito Doughnuts were picked as one of the World’s Best Doughnuts by BuzzFeed Food. Cool stuff, right?!
But, I bet you’ll be shocked to know that I’ve had a Krispy Kreme’s doughnut only once, and a Dunkin’ Donuts doughnut maybe 4 times, at the most.
I don’t go to fast food restaurants. If there’s something I like, I make it in my kitchen in whatever way I know how.
These Canned-Biscuits Jelly Donut Holes came about because I wanted a fried doughnut without, a) going to Dunkin’ Donuts and b) without all the work; like yeast, rising time, rolling… too much work. I want these babies on the weekends and I want them fast.
Thus, enter Canned Biscuits Dough! The Buttermilk kind from Pillsbury. That’s the one I use.
Make Donut Holes with Canned Biscuits
This is going to be the easiest fried doughnut recipe you have ever seen. I wasn’t sure what filling I wanted to include in this recipe for you because I sometimes use jelly, other times nothing, and often times I use chocolate ganache.
My mother thinks that it is totally wrong to include chocolate ganache in a doughnut. It’s too classy of a filling to be used in a doughnut, she says. I think she is trying to tell me that doughnuts are not classy.
ENJOY!

Ingredients
- 1 can (8-count) Pillsbury Grands Buttermilk Biscuits Dough
- 6 tablespoons raspberry jelly,, or use your favorite flavor
- Canola Oil for Frying
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Separate dough into individual biscuits.
- Flatten each biscuit dough with the palm of your hands; Cut in half.
- Place 1/2 teaspoon of Jelly in the middle of each half.
- Form each biscuit into a ball by pinching together the ends and then rolling the dough in between your palms.
- Fill a saucepan about a 1/3 way up with oil; heat oil.
- Once the oil is hot, lower the heat to medium-low. That’s about a “3” on my gas stove.
- Drop the doughnuts into the saucepan, 2 to 3 at a time.
- Fry them for 1 to 2 minutes or until golden, and then flip with tongs to fry the other side.
- Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl; toss the doughnuts in the cinnamon-sugar mixture while they're still warm.
- Serve immediately.

How many days in advance can you make the dough & jelly and keep them in fridge before frying them?
Or if you make in advance do you recommend freezing and then thawing out before frying?
I need to make them on Wednesday, for a party on Saturday.
What a fantastic idea. Heck, I don’t need to fill it with anything. Just give me a blob of fried dough on a plate! I love them. Congrats on your other donuts making the FoodBuzz site.
