Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Top Sirloin Steak: Other steak cuts like ribeye or strip steak can be used.
  • Salt, Ground Black Pepper, & Paprika: For basic seasoning to enhance the meat’s flavor.
  • Vegetable Oil: Used for searing the steak – you can use any high-smoke point oil.
  • For the Honey Garlic Sauce: Soy sauce, water, broth, garlic, honey, sesame seed oil, rice vinegar, dried oregano, and cornstarch.
  • Sesame Seeds and Green Onions: For garnish.

How To Make Honey Garlic Steak Bites

Making steak bites is a breeze, and the key trick here is using a hot skillet. This way, you avoid overcooking the steak. If your skillet is sizzling enough, the steak bites only need around 4 to 5 minutes to cook perfectly.

  1. Prep the Steak: Cube the steak and season it with paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. Make the Sauce: In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, water, garlic, honey, sesame seed oil, rice vinegar, oregano, and cornstarch.
  3. Cook: Sear the steak cubes in hot oil in a cast iron skillet, then set aside. Stir the sauce and add it to the skillet to deglaze. Then, return the steak and cook until the sauce thickens.
  4. Serve: Garnish the finished dish with sesame seeds and green onions and serve.

Recipe Tips and Variations

  • Let Them Sear: Hold off on stirring the steak bites immediately. Let them cook for a minute or two when they first hit the skillet to get that beautiful sear.
  • Avoid Crowding: Cook your steak bites in batches. Overcrowding leads to steaming instead of that desired browning effect.
  • Resting Time: Once cooked, let the steak bites rest for a few minutes. This helps them hold onto their juices, ensuring they are as tender and flavorful as possible.
  • Mix in Veggies: Toss in some vegetables like bell peppers, mushrooms, or onions while you cook the steak bites. Just remember to adjust your cooking time so everything is perfectly done.
  • To Make Ahead: Cube the raw steak and store it in the refrigerator for up to two days. Before cooking, remove it from the fridge and allow it to sit at room temperature for 15 minutes. Also, prepare the honey garlic sauce and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will keep well for up to 3 days.

The quickness of the recipe was a great selling point, and the picture was super enticing. However, the outcome was disappointing. I don’t know if any of my ingredients were weaker in taste than what the author was using, but it missed the mark widely. Not very savory and we expected much more. Tossed the leftovers.

  2. Shelby Green says:

Tried this tonight for a more creative steak recipe and it’s a winner! I think I will throw in some onions, peppers and mushrooms next time! Served with white rice, I think I’ll try some noodles next time.

  3. Ashley says:

Can I prepare the sauce the night before? Also, the meat. Not cook it but just season and container for the next day.

    1. Katerina says:

Absolutely, yes. Just keep the beef and sauce separate.

    2. Barbara says:

Yes, you can prepare the sauce the night before & put it in the fridge. Dry your meat well & then season with salt, pepper & paprika (although I would be inclined to do this prior to cooking. You can have the meat cut up, covered & put in fridge ready. Mix all the sauce ingredients & cover & put in fridge. Just stir the sauce again before you put it in the skillet. Enjoy!

  4. Charlene says:

Don’t use an entire tablespoon of sesame seed oil or it’ll taste like terrible Chinese takeout. Next time I might omit it entirely and just use hoisin sauce. Also, don’t use salt at all. The soy sauce has plenty, so it’ll be overpowering.

I’m very glad you enjoyed it! Thank YOU! 🙂

  7. Arnold says:

    Great and easy recipe.

I would recommend not using salt at all. The sauce is flavourful enough and the salt could potentially overpower it.

Also more garlic or even garlic powder if you really want the garlic flavour to be more prominent.

  8. Roxie says:

I accidentally pulled out new York steak , would that still be good to use for this recipe?

    1. Katerina says:

      Yes, that will work.

This sounds amazing! A must try indeed! The only thang I would do is pick out my steak and have my deli cut it up for me just because my wrist have a hard time doing this task anymore.. (so is picking up my cast iron but I cant imagine cooking without my cast irons) other than that this is in our very near future! Thank you for sharing a very delish recipe. Have a great day.
