Try these Juicy Turkey Burgers once, and you’ll never want to buy the store version again! Made with ground turkey and topped with melty cheddar cheese and creamy avocado slices, these homemade burgers make the perfect quick dinner.
The Best Homemade Turkey Burgers
Today I’m here with yet another recipe to add to your fabulous summer eating list! This time I’ve got Juicy Turkey Burgers for you to try, and you’re going to love, love, love them.
Okay, so I might be projecting my love for them a little bit, but I’m sure you’ll adore them, too.
As much as I love my beef, I think that turkey deserves some attention, as well, so I hope you’re hungry for homemade turkey burgers! These burgers are packed full of juicy ground turkey, pork rind panko crumbs, garlic, and onions. They’ve also got a bit of worcestershire + paprika to add a smoky kick.
The best part about making turkey burgers is that it’s quick and easy. You won’t spend more than 20 minutes on this meal!
And, when you’ve finished cooking it on the stovetop, you can top your perfectly browned turkey burger with fresh tomato, creamy avocado, melted cheddar cheese, and anything else your heart desires.
What You’ll Need
Okay, so what needs to go on the shopping list to make these ground turkey burgers happen? You probably already have most of the ingredients in the fridge or in the pantry, but here’s a comprehensive list just in case:
- Ground Turkey: I recommend using lean ground turkey, but not extra-lean. It’s harder to achieve juicy burgers with the latter. I find Jennie-O Ground Turkey to work best for turkey burgers.
- Breadcrumbs: I like to use pork rind panko crumbs, but regular panko crumbs are great, too.
- Onion: You’ll need grated yellow onion for these burgers.
- Garlic: Use fresh cloves, minced.
- Worcestershire Sauce: To boost the savory flavor.
- Seasoning: Use sweet or smoked paprika, salt, and fresh ground black pepper.
- Olive Oil: To cook the burgers in.
- Cheddar: You can also use another cheese like mozzarella, if you prefer.
- Lettuce: I generally use butterhead lettuce.
- Coleslaw: Optional, but I find it goes really well with these burgers.
- Avocado: Thinly sliced.
- Red Onion: Small red onion rings are great for the top of the burger.
- Burger Buns: Split and lightly toasted.
How to Make Juicy Turkey Burgers
You can have these turkey burgers prepped, on the skillet, and onto a serving plate before you know it. First you’ll form the patties, then you’ll sear them in the skillet for about 10 to 12 minutes, and finally you’ll garnish them with your favorite add-ons. Easy!
Here are the more in-depth instructions:
- Form the Meat Mixture: In a large mixing bowl combine ground turkey, crumbs, onions, garlic, worcestershire sauce, paprika, salt, and pepper; mix and stir until thoroughly combined. I recommend using your hands for mixing it all together. Divide mixture into 4 patties.
- Cook the Burgers: Set a large 12-inch skillet over medium heat and add the oil to heat up. To the hot oil add the patties and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes, or until browned on the bottom. Flip over and continue to cook for 5 to 6 more minutes, or until internal temperature of the patties registers at 165˚F. FYI: The thicker the patties, the longer it will take to cook them through.
- Remove Turkey Patties from the Heat: Serve in hamburger buns or lettuce leaves. Top turkey burgers with cheddar, lettuce, coleslaw, avocado, and red onions. Last FYI: Like, never skip the avocado and melty cheese. Ever. Trust me. ?
How Can I Tell When the Burger is Done?
- You’ll know the burgers are done when the bottoms are browned and the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F. The best way to know when they’ve reached that mark is to use a meat thermometer.
Tips for Success
As simple as ground turkey burgers usually are, I rounded up some extra tips just in case they might be helpful to you:
- Can I Grill These Burgers? Of course! The process is basically the same, but you might have to adjust the cooking time on each side slightly – just make sure the burgers reach an internal temp of 165˚F. AND, grease the grill grates a bit before cooking the burgers.
- Preheat the Pan: Make sure your oil is nice and hot when you add the burgers so that they brown up nice and quick. If the oil is just warm, it will take longer for the burgers to cook than what is listed on the recipe card.
- Don’t Overcook the Burgers: If the burgers reach an internal temperature that is higher than 165˚F, they will be dry.
- For Extra Juicy Burgers: Add a little mayonnaise – 1 or 2 tablespoons will do!
Serving Suggestions
Trying to figure out what to serve with your turkey burgers? If so, I’ve got a couple of suggestions! You can serve pretty much anything with them, really, but here are some of my favorite options:
- Corn on the Cob: Corn on the cob and burgers are a classic combination! This Mexican Street Corn recipe would be perfect for these turkey burgers.
- Pasta Salad: A simple pasta salad will go great with these juicy burgers. Try something like this Potluck Pasta Salad with Dijon Vinaigrette!
- Fries: Another classic combination! Burgers and fries just make the heart happy. So, while you’re searing your burgers, make these Oven Baked Seasoned French Fries on the side!
- Potato Salad: Pasta salad is a fabulous option, but potato salad is equally great. This Lightened Up Creamy Potato Salad is one of my favorites.
How to Store and Reheat Leftovers
- Should you have any leftover turkey burgers, save them in an airtight container in the fridge for 3 to 4 days.
- When you want to reheat them, simply heat up some oil in a skillet (medium heat) and cook the burgers until they are warmed through.
Can I Freeze These Turkey Burgers?
- Yep! If you want to freeze your turkey burgers, put them in an airtight container and eat them within 2 to 3 months.
- Remember to thaw them in the fridge before reheating!
ENJOY!

Growing up, my mom made these with Wheaties. The official title was “Thrifty Burgers” because turkey is cheaper than beef and the cereal stretches the meat (and the budget) further. Loved them then. Love this recipe, too. The pork rind crumbs give the burgers an incredible flavor! Rounds it out quite nicely.

Made these for my family & my hubby is asking when I will make them again. He complained for about a second that it wasn’t beef, but devoured this in minutes!
